The Pepper Tree Hostel is situated in a 100 year old villa with high ceilings and plenty of space. It is conveniently located within a 2 minute walk to town. There is a secluded outside area where you can enjoy hearing the birds sing or just relax in the sun. Follow the green boots up the path to the front door. Hosts Cherie and Dennis started the hostel in 1991 and live on site. Cherie's Art work is on display throughout the hostel.

Dennis runs a Motor Racing Team and works out of the garage.You can often see a couple of Formula First Racing cars on the drive way. Check out if you would like to see more.

About Palmerston North:

Palmerston North is at the cross roads linking North/South/East/ West. 2 hours to Wellington, 50 mins to Wanganui, 2 hours to Napier. The name 'Manawatu' is Derived from two words. Manawa and tu. Manawa refers to the heart - tu describes something that has come to a halt. The ancestor Hau uttered the word 'Ka tu taku manawa' meaning my heart stands still at the sight of the awesome Manawatu River.

Manawatu is home to the Manawatu Gorge – one of only a few places in the world where the river flows east to west through the main divide. Palmerston North is home to the largest University in New Zealand- Massey Univeristy. It also has one of the largest wind farms in the Southern Hemisphere.

The centre of town is called the Square and is set out in 4 different garden areas with old and new sculptures and art works. There is a new shopping plaza on the south side of the square. All under cover with extenvise parking off Prinecess and Fergusson street. But if you want something different then George Street and Coleman Place is where you will find Quant old shops and lots of great cafes or relax in the library.
